Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has stressed the need for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to have a permanent national chairman. Currently, Alhaji Ilya Umaru Damagum serves as acting national chairman. Mohammed emphasized that the party’s constitution requires filling vacancies from the region where they occur, which in this case is the North Central.
The PDP Governors’ Forum chairman reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its zoning arrangement to ensure balance, equity, and inclusiveness. He recalled the precedent set after Alhaji Bamanga Tukur’s resignation, which led to Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu becoming national chairman.
A recent meeting between the PDP Governors’ Forum and the National Working Committee emphasized unity, adherence to party principles, and constructive opposition. The meeting acknowledged the PDP’s historical significance in shaping Nigeria’s democracy and national development.
