The Nigerian Democracy Working Group, a coalition of civil society organizations, has tasked the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) to ensure a credible and transparent local government election in the state.
In a statement signed by convener Dr. Vincent Okpara Innocent and co-convener Dr. Idris Aliyu Mohammed, the CSOs expressed confidence in KANSIEC Chairman Prof. Sani Lawan Malumfashi’s ability to conduct a fair election.
The CSOs praised Malumfashi’s commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and accountability, citing his decision to reduce nomination form prices following a court order.
They urged Malumfashi to make the Kano LG polls a model for other states, leveraging his track record.
The CSOs stated, “We commend KANSIEC’s resolve to conduct an inclusive and transparent election. The chairman’s respect for the rule of law, as seen in the price reduction of nomination forms, is commendable.”
The group’s endorsement underscores the importance of free and fair elections in strengthening democracy in Kano State and beyond.
