ALGON Urges FG to Declare State of Emergency Over Maiduguri Flood

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has called on the federal government to declare a state of emergency in Maiduguri, Borno State, following the devastating flood that ravaged the city.

ALGON National President, Aminu Mua’zu Maifata, made the appeal in a statement issued in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Maifata urged the federal government to activate emergency management mechanisms to address the humanitarian crisis and support victims.

He also called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to provide immediate relief materials and support to affected communities.

ALGON advocated for swift measures to prevent future occurrences, emphasizing the need for a multi-stakeholder approach to address the root causes of the disaster.

The association commiserated with families who lost loved ones and properties, expressing solidarity with the government and people of Borno State.

ALGON assured the people and Governor of Borno State of the support of all 774 local government areas across the country during this challenging period.

The association’s call for a state of emergency highlights the urgency of the situation and the need for concerted efforts to mitigate the impact of the flood.
