Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced that his state will be the first to implement the new N70,000 minimum wage.

Yusuf made this declaration at a workshop organized by the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies in Kaduna, attended by the Kano State Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliates.

Represented by Head of Civil Service Abdullahi Musa, the governor reaffirmed the state’s commitment to implementing the new minimum wage.

Yusuf had previously inaugurated an advisory committee on August 2024 to facilitate the implementation process.

The committee is currently in Kaduna for a retreat to finalize the implementation plan, aiming to submit its report to the governor by next week.

The governor praised the harmonious relationship between Kano State workers and the government.

In his remarks, MINILS Director-General Comrade Issa Aremu emphasized the importance of constructive negotiation between workers and the government.

Kaduna State Controller of Labour Isah Bello Dambazau urged participants to remain united and share experiences to navigate workplace complexities.

The workshop aimed to enhance understanding of conflict resolution and equip participants with practical tools for peaceful industrial relations.
