The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (CON), on September 12, 2024, led members of the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on a solidarity visit to Borno and Yobe states to express empathy with the state governments and residents affected by recent tragedies.
In Borno State, Dr. Ganduje met with Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum to convey the Party’s deep sympathies over the devastating floods that wreaked havoc on Maiduguri and surrounding areas. The floods, caused by the collapse and overflow of the Alau Dam, resulted in the destruction of properties, farmlands, and critical public infrastructure. Dr. Ganduje emphasized the APC’s solidarity with the victims, noting that the damage to livelihoods and the displacement of families are a top concern for the Party and the federal government.
Speaking on behalf of the APC, Dr. Ganduje said, “We stand with the people of Borno in this time of hardship. The destruction caused by the flood is tragic, but we assure you that the federal government is committed to providing the necessary support to help rebuild lives, restore farmlands, and repair essential infrastructure. Our hearts go out to those affected, and we will work closely with the state government to ensure relief reaches those in need swiftly.”
In addition to conveying the Party’s condolences, Dr. Ganduje also discussed long-term solutions to mitigate future flooding, pledging that federal assistance will be mobilized to strengthen Borno’s flood control infrastructure and prevent further disasters.
Later in Yobe State, Dr. Ganduje and the NWC delegation met with Governor Mai Mala Buni to express condolences over the recent terrorist attack on Mara village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area. The attack resulted in the loss of many innocent lives, leaving the community reeling from the violence.
Ganduje extended the Party’s heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured Governor Buni that the APC and federal government are determined to bring the perpetrators of the heinous attack to justice. “We are deeply saddened by this senseless act of terror. The lives lost in Mara village cannot be replaced, but we are resolute in ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. The federal government will intensify its efforts to support Yobe in restoring security and providing the necessary assistance to the victims’ families.”
The APC National Chairman reiterated the Party’s commitment to improving security across the region, stressing the importance of a coordinated response to terrorism in collaboration with the federal government and security agencies. He noted that additional resources and reinforcements would be made available to Yobe to strengthen the fight against insurgency and prevent further attacks.
In both states, Dr. Ganduje and his delegation offered prayers for the families who lost loved ones, wishing them divine comfort and strength during their difficult time. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the attacks and floods, encouraging community resilience in the face of these challenging circumstances.
Governor Zulum of Borno and Governor Buni of Yobe expressed their gratitude to the APC leadership for their visit and reassured their citizens that the state governments, in collaboration with federal authorities, are working tirelessly to provide relief and improve security. Governor Zulum emphasized that the support of the federal government and political leadership will go a long way in the recovery efforts for Borno, while Governor Buni vowed that Yobe will not relent in its fight against terrorism.
