Anti-Party Activities: PDP Suspends Melaye

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken swift disciplinary action against one of its high-profile members, Senator Dino Melaye, suspending him over allegations of engaging in anti-party activities.

According to a memo obtained by Abuja City Journal on Friday, the suspension was initiated by the executive committee of the Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 in Kogi State, following the review of a report submitted by a disciplinary committee. This committee had been tasked with investigating Melaye’s actions, which were deemed contrary to the party’s interests.

The decision to suspend Melaye, a former senator and vocal PDP member, stems from recent activities considered harmful to the party’s unity and overall objectives. While details of these actions have not been fully disclosed, the move underscores the party’s resolve to maintain discipline and ensure that members adhere to its principles.

This is not the first time the PDP has suspended prominent figures for alleged anti-party conduct. In August 2024, Peter Babalola, a key figure in Osun State, was suspended for similar reasons, including accusations of engaging in activities that undermined the party and his failure to attend meetings for two consecutive years. These actions reflect the party’s ongoing efforts to address internal challenges and strengthen its political structure ahead of upcoming elections.
