Afeez Akinteye, President of the Senate and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), expressed deep sorrow on Wednesday over the severe flooding that devastated Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, affecting thousands of residents, including students and staff of the Mohamet Lawan College of Agriculture.

In a heartfelt statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune, Akinteye extended the association’s condolences to the affected families, acknowledging the profound disruption caused by the natural disaster. The flooding, which displaced many and left significant damage in its wake, has also severely impacted students striving to complete their academic goals.

“The disruption of lives, damage to houses, and forced displacement of thousands within the community are terrible and highly upsetting, particularly for students attempting to accomplish their academic objectives,” Akinteye remarked in the statement.

He emphasized that education is a core pillar of society, and any event that hinders students from pursuing their education must be treated with urgency and compassion. “This unfortunate incident has disrupted not only the lives of residents but has also severely affected the educational aspirations of many young people,” he said.
