A devastating flood in Kafanchan and surrounding villages in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State has resulted in the loss of two minor lives and displaced over 1,000 citizens.

Vice Chairman of Jema’a LGA, Mrs. Christy Usman, revealed the toll while receiving the Kaduna State Impact Assessment Committee on Flood, which toured affected communities.

The flood also destroyed farmlands and crops worth millions of naira in parts of Kafanchan Municipal City, Jagindi, Atuku, Aso, and Bade wards.

Chairman of the Committee and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Malam Sani Liman Kila, emphasized that thousands require immediate assistance after visiting affected communities in Sanga, Jema’a, and Kachia local government areas.

Kila noted that the flood damaged a bridge in Agom, Sanga Local Government area, isolating five communities, and caused house collapses in Nandu.

Long-standing issues, including narrow bridges, indiscriminate refuse dumping, and illegal structures on waterways, were identified as significant causes of the floods.

The Committee will submit recommendations to Governor Uba Sani.

Kila appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials to flood victims, complementing the State Government’s efforts.
