Popular Nigerian disc jockey DJ Neptune has addressed recent allegations from singer and former BBNaija winner Laycon, who accused him of not paying royalties for their collaboration on the “Nobody Icons” Remix.
Laycon had publicly claimed that he had yet to receive any payment from the song, which was released four years ago. In response to these accusations, DJ Neptune appeared on the “Zero Conditions” podcast to set the record straight.
DJ Neptune clarified, “Laycon is my brother regardless. Let me make it clear: nobody has stolen anyone’s money. I want to believe you understand the music business. When you have a deal with a distribution company or a label, and they provide advance marketing funds, they need to recoup that investment.”
He continued, “So that’s where we stand with ‘Nobody Icons’ Remix’. What Laycon is requesting is the proper documentation. He reached out to me about it, and it wasn’t a matter of cheating. When he contacted me, I referred him to my legal team and even asked for his lawyer’s contact details, which I then forwarded.”
DJ Neptune emphasized, “I’m not a legal expert. I’m a creative professional who performs and supports my family. I’ve entrusted this matter to those who can handle it. There were ongoing discussions between our lawyers, and perhaps my mistake was not following up more closely. A proposed percentage was put forth to Laycon’s team, but they rejected it, and the conversation stalled.”
He also criticized Laycon’s public approach, stating that the manner in which Laycon called him out on social media made it appear as though he had defrauded him.
