Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken control of the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), requesting access to the organization’s directors.
This development comes hours after the DSS arrested Nigeria Labour Congress President Joe Ajaero.
SERAP announced the incident on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that DSS officers are unlawfully occupying their office.
The organization urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the DSS to end the harassment and intimidation.
The incident occurs amid SERAP’s recent call for President Tinubu to reverse the hike in premium motor spirit (PMS) prices, citing constitutional and international human rights obligations.
SERAP had given the president 48 days to address the issue, emphasizing that the price increase breaches constitutional guarantees and Nigeria’s international human rights commitments.
Details of the operation are still emerging.
