Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, has clarified that the arrest of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero by the Department of State Services (DSS) is unrelated to an earlier invitation by the Nigeria Police Force.

Ajaero was arrested by DSS operatives on Monday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja while on his way to the United Kingdom for a Trade Union Congress (TUC) conference in Britain.

Speaking about the incident, Falana stated, “The invitation to Comrade Joe Ajaero by the police was rescheduled last week. I have contacted the police authorities, and the arrest is not related to the police invitation.”

Falana further noted that the DSS had not provided any reason for Ajaero’s arrest, despite the fact that he was en route to attend the ongoing TUC conference in London.

It is worth recalling that Ajaero had previously honored a police invitation on August 29 in connection with allegations of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.
