Professor Adejoke Akinyele, Dean of the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources at the University of Ibadan, has called on the Nigerian government to eliminate middlemen from the food and agriculture supply chain. Akinyele stressed that this step is crucial in addressing food insecurity across the country.

Speaking at the 40th-year reunion of the UI Agriculture and Forestry Class of 1984 in Ibadan, Akinyele suggested that direct distribution of farm produce from farmers to consumers would greatly enhance food security and mitigate the current food insufficiency issues.

“If we can remove the middlemen from the food production chain, it is going to go a long way in ensuring food security in Nigeria,” Akinyele stated.

During the event, University of Ibadan’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Administration, Professor Peter Olapegba, praised the alumni’s contributions to various fields. He highlighted the important role alumni play in supporting universities globally and encouraged them to take an active role in addressing the challenges facing UI.
