Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah of the Sokoto Catholic Diocese has urged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to address the rising cost of fuel in Nigeria, highlighting the urgent need to ease the burden on Nigerians.
Speaking at the official unveiling of The Progressive Institute (TPI) on Friday in Abuja, Kukah emphasized that Nigerians are struggling with hunger and high living costs, exacerbated by the recent hike in the pump price of petrol to around ₦897 by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
Kukah remarked, “We Nigerians are hungry. Find a way of reducing the price of fuel.” He further expressed concern about the quality of democracy in the country, urging for a strong foundation to avoid instability, stating, “Unless democracy is anchored on a sound foundation, we will be building on sand.”
The event was attended by notable APC leaders, including the party’s national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Senator Barau I. Jibrin (representing the Senate President), and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
