The Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee (JDC) has discharged 42 inmates from the Yolde Pate Correctional Centre in Yola South Local Government Area. This move is part of the JDC’s ongoing efforts to decongest correctional facilities across the state.

The committee, led by the state Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman, also granted bail to 25 other inmates and convicted 37 more at the same facility. The discharged and bailed inmates were among 182 awaiting trial cases presented to the committee.

The Yolde Pate Correctional Centre, with a capacity of 800, currently houses 886 inmates, including 665 awaiting trial and 185 convicted, with 16 on death row.

Among the discharged inmates was 69-year-old Saraya Silma, who had been awaiting trial for 10 years over allegations of character assassination.

Justice Abdulrahaman congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to avoid actions that might lead to their return to prison. Dominic David, one of the released inmates, expressed gratitude on behalf of the group, thanking the Chief Judge and her team and hoping for a better future for all.
