The Nasarawa State government has launched a training program for 50 auto-technicians on converting petroleum vehicles to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
Director General of the Nasarawa State Human Capital Development Agency, Habiba Balarabe-Suleiman, disclosed that the training will take place at Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN) Limited in Kaduna State.
The initiative aims to promote sustainable energy alternatives, reducing fuel costs and contributing to environmental conservation.
The beneficiaries, members of the Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association, were selected from across the state for the 5-day workshop.
This training aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), launched in August 2023, to ease the impact of fuel subsidy removal and reduce energy costs.
The PCNGI targets 11,500 new CNG-enabled vehicles and 55,000 CNG conversion kits for existing vehicles, promoting in-country manufacturing, local assembly, and job creation.
Balarabe-Suleiman explained that the training supports President Tinubu’s agenda to revolutionize the transportation system using alternative and clean energy sources.
The state government provided stipends, accommodation, and transportation for participants, with a graduation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, where Governor Abdullahi Sule will present certificates.
