Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has expressed his deep appreciation for the humanitarian services provided by billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates, who is currently in Nigeria to support the health sector.
In a post on his X handle on Tuesday, Sani commended Gates for his unwavering commitment to Nigeria, highlighting the significant contributions and interventions made by Gates over the years, amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars.
Sani wrote, “Bill Gates voluntarily chose Nigeria for his charitable work. Rather than being appreciated for his contributions and interventions in developmental issues… he has been bombarded with all sorts of accusations, doubts, criticisms and series of conspiracy theories.”
He emphasized the importance of recognizing Gates as a friend rather than an enemy, especially in light of the challenges facing Nigeria’s global image. Sani pointed out that while some international figures have distanced themselves from Nigeria due to its reputation for internet fraud, drug trafficking, and money laundering, Gates has remained steadfast in his commitment to the country.
“Should we appreciate Mr. Gates who believes and sticks with us or not? Ours is a country that is damaged globally… Mr. Gates doesn’t believe in all these and still chose our country,” Sani continued.
He further noted that while many multinational companies and international figures have pulled out of Nigeria for economic and security reasons, Gates has remained committed to helping the nation. Sani praised Gates for his nearly two decades of involvement in improving health, education, and infrastructure in various Nigerian communities.
Sani concluded by underscoring the ingratitude shown by some towards Gates, stating, “The man who stood with you in good, bad, and worst moments is indeed a friend.”
