Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that 41 people were killed and 180 others injured in a Russian missile attack on the central Ukrainian city of Poltava on Tuesday. He described the strike as one of the deadliest incidents in the ongoing conflict, which has lasted over two and a half years.

The attack targeted a military education facility and a nearby hospital. In response, Zelensky vowed to hold those responsible accountable, referring to them as “Russian scum.”

The strike has sparked widespread anger on Ukrainian social media, particularly as reports emerged that it may have targeted an outdoor military ceremony. Many have criticized officials for allowing the event to take place despite the ongoing threat of Russian attacks.

In a social media post, Zelensky stated, “More than 180 people were injured. Unfortunately, there are many dead. As of now, 41 people have been reported dead.” He added that two Russian ballistic missiles had struck the hospital and an educational institution, partially destroying one of the buildings.

Zelensky has ordered a full and prompt investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
