Jigawa State’s FADAMA CARES project coordinator, Aliyu Inuwa, has issued a strict warning to beneficiaries of the state’s agricultural support program, cautioning them against selling or diverting the provided inputs. The warning was delivered during the flag-off of the fifth phase of the program at the Dutse JASCO store, where agricultural inputs were distributed to farmers.
Inuwa highlighted that under the fifth phase of the program, a total of 4,340 farmers received essential agricultural inputs, including three bags of fertilizer (two NPK and one UREA), agro-chemicals, and herbicides. The beneficiaries were categorized based on their crop production: 640 for rice, 640 for maize, 1,660 for millet, and 1,400 for sorghum.
“The support is a grant, not a loan, so we expect you to use it judiciously to enhance food production,” Inuwa emphasized. He also made it clear that the program would closely monitor the use of these inputs and that anyone found selling or diverting them would face serious consequences.
The project, part of the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) initiative, aims to expand access to livelihood support and food security services, as well as grants for poor and vulnerable households and businesses.
Several farmers expressed their gratitude to the Jigawa State Government for the support, assuring that they would use the inputs effectively to boost food production.
