Starlink has informed Brazil’s telecom regulator, Anatel, that it will not comply with a court order to block the social media platform X until its local bank accounts are unfrozen. Anatel confirmed receiving this communication and has forwarded it to Brazil’s top court.
Last week, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered all telecom providers to suspend X, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, due to its lack of legal representation in Brazil. This decision also led to the freezing of Starlink’s accounts in the country. Musk criticized the move, calling Moraes a “dictator.”
The account freeze is linked to unpaid fines that X owes for failing to provide certain documents. A five-member panel of the Supreme Court is set to decide whether to uphold Moraes’ ruling. Legal experts believe the court is likely to support the decision.
