A Kano Magistrate Court has remanded Mukhtar Dahiru, a staff of Radio Nigeria’s Pyramid FM, over allegations of criminal conspiracy, defamation, and insult against Anas Abba Dala, a special assistant to former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Dala initiated the legal action, stating that Dahiru used his social media platform to accuse him of adultery, abandoning his 85-year-old mother, and impregnating a woman.

Dahiru allegedly also insulted Vice President Kashim Shettima and made false claims about Dala’s literacy and religious knowledge.

Dala clarified that the lawsuit was a personal matter, not initiated by the Kano State government, and aimed to reclaim his integrity and image.

According to Dala, Dahiru’s Facebook platform, ‘MD,’ was used to intimidate the public, and he was arrested after attempting to escape.

The police investigated the matter and referred it to court, where Dahiru faced charges but was granted bail upon his lawyer’s request.

Dala emphasized that the case was a private legal matter, not a government-led crackdown on journalists.

The incident highlights concerns about social media misuse and defamation, as well as the importance of accountability for online content.
