A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of several #EndBadGovernance protesters at Kuje Medium Correctional Centre after they were charged with treason. The court’s decision has sparked outrage, particularly from Mr. Deji Adeyanju, one of the protesters’ lawyers, who expressed deep sadness over the charges.

In an interview, Adeyanju criticized the Tinubu-led government for pursuing charges against peaceful protesters while bandits continue to operate freely without facing legal consequences. He highlighted a recent incident where another protester was arrested in a church, labeled an armed robber, and detained.

Justice Emeka Nwite, presiding over the case, set a hearing date of September 11, 2024, for the protesters’ bail application. Adeyanju emphasized the slow pace of justice, questioning why the government is criminalizing the constitutionally protected right to freedom of assembly.

He further lamented the government’s lack of commitment to upholding justice, stating that the actions taken against the protesters demonstrate a disregard for doing what is right. Despite the challenges, Adeyanju assured that the legal team is fully prepared for the upcoming bail hearing.
