The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has collaborated with digital platform owners to ensure only classified films and videos are distributed on their channels.
Executive Director Dr. Husseini Shaibu disclosed this at a Lagos Round Table Forum themed “Morality and Ethics in Film Production in Nigeria.”
Shaibu stated that the NFVCB and platform owners are developing a protocol requiring all films and videos produced or imported into Nigeria to be classified by the Board before uploading.
The Board is working to establish necessary infrastructure for mandatory content classification on digital platforms.
Shaibu reminded filmmakers to submit their works for classification, citing the law that mandates the NFVCB’s oversight of both analogue and digital distribution.
Filmmaker Teco Benson pledged the industry’s commitment to classification but questioned the accuracy of recent NFVCB production statistics.
The partnership aims to regulate Nigeria’s digital content and promote ethical film production.
This move will help safeguard moral standards and protect consumers from harmful or unclassified content.
