The Abia State government has endorsed the off-grid electrification and action plan policy proposed by the Nigeria Off-Grid Market Acceleration Programme (NoMAP).

At a workshop organized by NoMAP in Umuahia, government officials from various ministries, departments, and agencies gathered to discuss the policy’s implementation.

NoMAP, a collaborative effort between Shell Foundation, USAID, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and other donor agencies, focuses on policy and regulation, funding interventions, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building.

Jennifer Anya Lekwa, a program associate with NoMAP, emphasized the organization’s role in assisting government agencies with policy documentation and action plans for off-grid electricity.

According to Lekwa, participants reached a consensus on the policy’s importance, recognizing its potential impact.

Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities Ikechukwu Monday inaugurated the workshop, highlighting Abia State’s urgent need for energy solutions.

Monday praised NoMAP and its sponsors for their initiative, acknowledging the state’s reliance on reliable energy to drive development.

This partnership aims to accelerate Abia State’s transition to sustainable off-grid electricity, addressing energy challenges and fostering economic growth.
