Tinubu’s Grip on Nigeria Will Not End Well, Warns Sule Lamido

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has issued a stark warning about the trajectory of Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, comparing Tinubu’s hold on the country to that of a predatory cat eventually confronted by its prey.

In a recent interview with Tribune, Lamido did not mince words as he critiqued Tinubu’s methods and the potential consequences for Nigeria.

Drawing a vivid analogy, Lamido stated, “The domestic cat fed on small chickens, but one day, the mother of the chickens stood up to the cat. Tinubu is that cat.” This metaphor, he explained, underscores his belief that no matter how powerful or untouchable a leader may seem, there comes a time when their reign is challenged, and ultimately, they face downfall. Lamido likened Tinubu to historical figures who once seemed invincible, only to have their empires collapse in the end. “Even Pharaoh’s empire collapsed,” he pointed out, suggesting that Tinubu’s grip on power is not as secure as it may appear.

Lamido expressed deep concern over Tinubu’s dominance in the Nigerian political landscape, describing him as someone who has mastered the art of manipulation and control. “Tinubu today is somebody who has a grip on Nigeria, who owes obeisance to nobody in Nigeria, who believes that God made him and he made himself, and he is now lording it over the Nigerian people and nobody can challenge him,” Lamido remarked. He acknowledged Tinubu’s political acumen and his ability to navigate and exploit the system to his advantage, but lamented that this skill is being used for personal gain rather than for the development of the nation.

“I wish he could use his sagacity, his talent to help Nigeria’s development. It would have been wonderful. But he is using it negatively. He has everything but not for the development of Nigeria, and it is affecting you, it is affecting me,” Lamido continued. His criticism reflects a broader concern among some political leaders and citizens that Tinubu’s leadership style, while effective in consolidating power, may not bode well for the future of Nigeria.
