The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted 684 senior officers across various ranks within the Nigeria Police Force.
This decision was made during the inaugural meeting led by the new Chairman of the PSC, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), in Abuja. The meeting included other key figures such as DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd) and Honourable Commissioner Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, along with the Secretary to the Commission.
Among the promoted officers, eight Commissioners of Police were elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG). Additionally, 15 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) were promoted to full Commissioners of Police.
According to a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, the promotion exercise also saw 52 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP) advancing to Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP). Furthermore, 525 Superintendents of Police (SP) were promoted to Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP), and 84 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) were promoted to Superintendents of Police (SP). ASP Patrick Ebhodahe was also promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
The PSC highlighted that the promotions were not automatic. The eight Commissioners and 15 Deputy Commissioners had to undergo assessments and examinations as part of the promotion process.
