The Lagos State Taskforce has launched a major operation to clear the Lekki-Epe Expressway of miscreants and suspected criminals who have been causing distress to motorists and residents in the area.

The crackdown took place in several key locations, including Chisco Roundabout, Elegushi, Ikate Roundabout, and Marwa Bus Stop. This action was initiated after the agency received numerous complaints from concerned motorists and residents, who reported an increase in criminal activities, particularly during rush hours. These criminals, often hiding in inconspicuous spots along the expressway, have been targeting unsuspecting passersby and motorists.

CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, stated that the operation was conducted under special directives from Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade. Akerele emphasized the agency’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Lagos residents. He stated, “We cannot allow these criminal elements to hold our people hostage in their communities. The State Government remains steadfast in its resolve to protect lives and property. This operation is a testament to our unwavering dedication to this cause.”

The operation was well-received by motorists who witnessed the taskforce in action. The Lagos State Taskforce reassured residents that this exercise aligns with its mandate under the THEMES Plus Agenda of the Governor, which focuses on restoring law and order along the Lekki-Epe Expressway and across the metropolis.

CSP Akerele also revealed that the agency had conducted preliminary surveillance in the area. It was discovered that these miscreants were using the pedestrian bridges at Ikate and Marwa Bus Stop to spot and target broken-down vehicles. Akerele assured that these activities have now been brought to a halt.

Residents and motorists are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the agency or the nearest police station. “We remain on high alert and will continue to carry out surveillance and sting operations aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of motorists and residents along this axis and beyond,” Akerele added.
