The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights has asked Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke not to politicize education, emphasizing that past administrations’ beneficial policies and programmes should be maintained.

The CDHR, in a statement issued by its Osun State Chairman, Emmanuel Olowu, on Friday, urged Adeleke to reinstate the essay competition, an annual event commemorating the state’s inception.

The tournament, which was created during the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, drew nearly 3,500 competitors from the state’s secondary and higher schools. However, the programme has not been held since Adeleke took government in 2022.

Responding to the discontinuation, the CDHR criticised the abandonment of effective policies and programmes, asserting that the essay competition, being highly educational, should not have been discontinued.

The statement read in part, “We frown at the abandonment of projects and discontinuation of good policies and programmes of past administrations by a new government.

“Programme like essay competition which was very educative shouldn’t be discontinued for any reason. Perhaps, a better alternative should have been in place if the current administration finds anything missing in the programme.”
