Former Senator Shehu Sani has praised the residents of Gobir in Sokoto State for taking decisive action against the bandits that have been terrorizing their community. In a viral video, thousands of residents can be seen storming the forest to confront the bandits directly.

Reacting to the video, Sani emphasized that the time for the people to take a stand against banditry is now. He highlighted the importance of community action in combating the persistent threat, especially given the failure of security agencies to effectively address the issue.

Sani, who has previously expressed sorrow over the killing of the Emir of Gobir and the ongoing kidnappings in the northern regions, reiterated the need for a grassroots approach. On his Facebook page, he advocated for a “People’s Shahada action,” a mass movement aimed at reclaiming the lands, forests, and farms from the grip of banditry.

He suggested that collaboration between vigilantes and security agencies is crucial for achieving lasting peace, and he prayed for the restoration of security in the region. Sani’s call to action reflects a growing sentiment among communities in the North West that they must take their safety into their own hands to ensure a future free from violence and fear.
