Abia State Governor Alex Otti has flagged off the reconstruction of the 41.4-kilometer Ohafia-Arochukwu Highway, which will stretch to the Akwa Ibom border.
At the launch ceremony held at Old Soldier Junction, Ebem Ohafia, Otti described the project as a game-changer, promising completion within 18 months.
“Today, we embark on a transformative journey to end the long-standing suffering of our people,” Otti said. “This project will breathe new life into over 60 communities and clans along this corridor.”
Otti noted that the road’s rehabilitation would alleviate embarrassment caused by its poor condition, particularly to international visitors and tourists.
Commissioner for Works Otuechere Oti hailed the project as a turning point in the socio-economic landscape of Arochukwu, Ohafia, and Abia State.
Ohafia Local Government Chairman David Onuoha praised Governor Otti for addressing the long-neglected road issue, which had plagued successive administrations.
The rehabilitation project aims to boost economic growth, improve livelihoods, and enhance connectivity in the region.
