ALGON Partners with EFCC to Promote Transparency and Accountability

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has announced a collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure financial discipline at the local government level.

This decision was reached at ALGON’s 49th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. The partnership aims to orient local government officials on procurement, financial spending, due process, accountability, and transparency.

In a communique signed by National Publicity Secretary Bala Chamoo and Treasurer Gazal Babatunde, ALGON expressed appreciation for the multi-stakeholder engagements following the Supreme Court judgment granting full autonomy to local governments.

The communique highlighted key resolutions; ALGON welcomed the Federal Government’s Steering Committee on enforcing and implementing the Supreme Court judgment on Local Government Financial Autonomy, the association reaffirmed its commitment to intensify efforts and achieve tangible successes in service delivery.

Ongoing advocacy efforts include visits to key ministries and agencies, such as Health, Education, Finance, and Petroleum Resources. ALGON is optimistic about the positive outcomes resulting from autonomy gains.

The meeting also focused on completing Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) projects nationwide, with plans to invite the consultant for a briefing.

This partnership underscores ALGON’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and effective governance at the local level.
