Nigerian music sensation Omah Lay has expressed his delight with fans labeling his music as “Afro-Depression.” In a recent Billboard interview, Omah Lay shared his enthusiasm for starting a new movement with his emotionally charged sound.

“I love that my fans created the term ‘Afro-Depression’ without me having to explain my music,” he said. “It’s incredible to see my music resonate with listeners and become a movement.”

Omah Lay’s music, known for its emotional and sentimental elements, offers a glimpse into his personal struggles. His debut album “Boy Alone” and hit single “Soso” exemplify this melancholic sound, earning him the “Afro-Depression” tag.

The artist believes his music has inspired a new wave of Afrobeats artists, with many taking cues from his style. “Everybody’s trying to copy something,” he noted. “It’s a new movement.”

Omah Lay recently released his 2023 single “Moving,” a precursor to his upcoming sophomore album. He revealed that he re-recorded the album after an artist stole his sound.
