The Adamawa State Executive Council (SEC) has approved a budget of N19.7 billion to rebuild the Jimeta Modern Shopping Complex in Yola, the state’s capital. The decision was made during the SEC meeting held on Wednesday at the Government House in Yola, which was presided over by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

The shopping complex was demolished last month to make way for the construction of a flyover and to allow for the development of a more modern shopping facility. The Information and Strategy Commissioner, Mr. Iliya James, who briefed journalists after the meeting, stated that the project has been awarded to three contractors and is expected to be completed within 20 months.

The Commissioner of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, Dr. Ishaya Dabari, provided additional details about the project. He noted that the new shopping centre will include a fire service unit, a police station, a car park, an administrative block, and other essential facilities.

Additionally, the Commissioner of Environment, Sadiq Mohammed, addressed the ongoing issue of flooding in the state, advising residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer locations to avoid potential disasters.
