The Lagos State government has set aside N1 billion for research initiatives, aiming to foster a culture of innovation, science, and technology. Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Olatunbosun Alake, made this announcement at the opening ceremony of the University of Lagos 2024 Data Science School.
Alake commended UNILAG for its initiative and highlighted the significance of data science in driving innovative city projects and sustainable development in Lagos. He emphasized the importance of training and encouraged participants to utilize the Lagos State Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC) Seed Fund, established to support wealth creation, growth, and addressing societal challenges.
Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Olayinka Taiwo Asekun, welcomed participants and praised the establishment of the Data Science School as a strategic move to position the university at the forefront of technological innovation and research. She encouraged participants to engage actively with the content, ask questions, and build connections during the two-week school, emphasizing the importance of data science in driving insights and shaping decisions across sectors.
