Simon Ekpa, the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), has asserted that over 50 million people have participated in a self-referendum for Biafra. Ekpa made this claim in a statement released via his official X account on Tuesday.

He emphasized the enthusiasm of Biafrans towards the e-voting and physical voting processes, suggesting that this turnout reflects their desire for liberation. Ekpa compared the number of participants in the self-referendum to the 25,286,616 votes recorded in the 2023 Nigerian presidential election, arguing that the self-referendum had attracted more than double that figure over the last eight months.

Ekpa cited issues such as marginalization, underdevelopment, insecurity, attacks against Christians, and poverty in the South-East and South-South regions as justifications for the self-referendum.

“Let it be on record, the sample of the Biafra Self Referendum physical voting card has recorded over 50 million votes, double the general election result. Fifty million votes officially recorded and registered in the 40 United States of Biafra. We are making it happen! Tell your children this is how we did it. Let the historians go to work,” Ekpa claimed.

Recently, Ekpa also released a map containing 40 states, which he described as the new map of Biafra.
