As Nigerian music continues to gain global prominence, Afrobeats stars are increasingly making their mark in prestigious awards like the Grammys. On August 26, 2024, Davido announced his latest collaboration, titled “Joy,” featuring five-time Grammy winner Angélique Kidjo. The track is set to release on August 30, 2024, which coincidentally falls on the same day as the Grammy entry deadline.

This strategic release has ignited discussions about Davido’s potential Grammy aspirations. In 2023, Davido was nominated in three categories: Best Global Album, Best Global Song Performance, and Best African Song Performance, though he didn’t win. This new collaboration with Kidjo, who has garnered 14 Grammy nominations in global categories, could potentially boost his chances of securing another nomination.

Interestingly, Burna Boy earned one of his 10 Grammy nominations through a guest appearance on Kidjo’s track “Do Yourself,” which received a nod for Global Song Performance at the 64th Grammys.

With “Joy,” Davido seems to be positioning himself for a similar accolade, particularly in the global categories where Kidjo has excelled. Fans and industry insiders alike are eagerly waiting to see if this collaboration will pave the way for a Grammy nod.
