Onanuga Criticizes Obasanjo for Neglecting Abeokuta-Abule Egba Road as Reconstruction Begins

President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has criticized former President Olusegun Obasanjo for neglecting the Abeokuta-Ifo-Sango-Abule Egba Highway during his administration. Onanuga described the road’s state as a “huge embarrassment” to Ogun State due to years of neglect.

He made these remarks following the commencement of reconstruction work on the critical 70-kilometer highway. The project, which has now been transferred to the Ogun State government under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, aims to restore the road to world-class standards.

Governor Abiodun, during the flag-off ceremony for the road’s reconstruction, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for approving the transfer of the project to Ogun State. He emphasized the road’s importance, stating, “This road is vital for connecting key regions within Ogun and Lagos States, supporting both local and national economic activities, and serving as a crucial link to neighboring West African countries.”

The governor assured residents that the reconstruction would include essential features such as drainage systems, sidewalks, and traffic signs. He also highlighted the project’s potential to create jobs, boost economic activity, and improve the quality of life for residents.

Onanuga, in response to the commencement of work, praised Governor Abiodun’s efforts, stating, “We must show appreciation to Governor Abiodun for taking on the reconstruction of the road, after the Tinubu administration transferred it to the Ogun State Government.”
