Nigerian singer Omah Lay has accused a fellow artist of stealing the concept for his next album. According to Omah Lay, he had shared the idea with this unnamed colleague as part of a proposed collaboration, only for the artist to release an album featuring the same concept.
In an interview on the Zach Sang Show, Omah Lay revealed that this betrayal forced him to re-record his own album.
“My song ‘Holy Ghost’ represents a new sound,” he explained. “Originally, I planned to build the entire album around this new sound, but I had to rethink my approach.”
Omah Lay continued, “I shared my vision with an artist I admired and trusted. Five months later, he released an album with the exact same sound. As a result, I had to start over and re-record my album, which I believe will be the greatest album in Afrobeats history.”
