On Thursday, hundreds of residents of Jigawa State’s Ringim Constituency protested, demanding the expulsion of Alhaji Muttaka Namadi, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Farmers, youths, community leaders, and women rallied in front of the Jigawa State Government House to express their unhappiness with the commissioner’s performance.

The demonstrators marched from Ringim to Dutse, waving placards and banners as they blocked the main entrance to the government house.

They demanded the resignation of the commissioner and chanted their dissatisfaction, charging him with disregarding the needs of the populace and delivering unimportant projects.

One of the demonstrators’ leaders, Malam Bashir Muhammad Dan Malam, told the assembly, “It’s time for him to resign or continue to face a series of votes of no confidence from us.”

The demonstrators contended that maintaining democracy and guaranteeing accountability within the government depend on the commissioner’s dismissal.

The demonstrators resisted attempts by government representatives and security officers to defuse the situation by demanding that their complaints be made directly to Governor Umar Namadi.

Following the two-hour demonstration, representatives from the group were chosen to meet with government authorities.

The delegates presented a formal petition detailing the commissioner’s supposed inadequacies and restated their demand for his dismissal during the meeting.
