Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has committed to enhancing the judiciary’s standards and improving its public image.
Justice Kekere-Ekun made this pledge on Friday after being sworn in as the Acting CJN by President Bola Tinubu at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja, pending her confirmation by the Senate.
Speaking to journalists following the ceremony, Kekere-Ekun expressed her determination to ensure that Nigerians regain confidence in the judiciary by the end of her tenure. She emphasized that improving the judiciary’s reputation is a collective effort, requiring cooperation from all stakeholders within the legal system.
“My expectation is to take the judiciary to greater heights, improve its reputation, and ensure people have more confidence in the judiciary,” she stated. “We all want to see a better judiciary, and a better judiciary benefits the entire nation.”
Justice Kekere-Ekun also highlighted the importance of focusing on the process of appointments and discipline within both the bench and the bar. She concluded by expressing her belief that her tenure would leave the judiciary in a state that all Nigerians can be proud of.
