Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has condemned the recent attack on a BRT bus by hoodlums, who robbed passengers of their belongings. The Governor assured that security agents are pursuing the attackers and will face the law.

During an “Ask Lagos” program on Tuesday, Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso emphasized that vandalism is not part of Lagos’ culture and attributed such acts to “pure criminality”. He cited instances of vandalism, including the removal of electric poles and theft of manhole covers.

Omotoso expressed disappointment with the disregard for public property, stating that those who destroy facilities are “agents of discomfort”. He urged Lagosians to take ownership of public facilities and report suspicious activities.

The Commissioner assured that the government will ensure culprits face justice, citing Section 339 of the Lagos State Criminal Code, which deals with vandalism and prescribes fines and imprisonment as penalties.

Omotoso supported the idea of introducing a reward mechanism for whistleblowers and emphasized the role of communal efforts in combating vandalism. He highlighted the State Government’s investment in youth centers and mini-stadia to provide constructive outlets for youths.

The Commissioner concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting public property and ensuring Lagos remains a safe and welcoming city.
