As part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Economic Empowerment Programme, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched recapitalization grants for 1,000 women petty traders in Abuja. This initiative is aimed at driving economic growth and improving the lives of families across the nation.
During the flag-off event in Abuja, the First Lady revealed that a total of N1.85 billion would be disbursed to 37,000 women petty traders nationwide. The grants are part of a larger effort to empower women, who play a crucial role in sustaining local economies through small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The event, which is taking place simultaneously across all 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, highlights the commitment of the Renewed Hope Initiative to addressing the challenges faced by SMEs, particularly women traders. Each of the pre-selected women traders will receive a grant of N50,000 to recapitalize and expand their businesses.
The First Lady, represented by Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Lanyi, the Mandate Secretary of the Women Affairs Secretariat and FCT State Coordinator of the RHI, emphasized the resilience of women in the face of economic challenges. The symbolic presentation of cheques to some of the beneficiaries marked the high point of the event.
