The Federal Government of Nigeria has called on citizens to actively provide information and collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force to enhance the security of lives and property across the nation. This appeal was made by the Minister of State for Police Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, during a stakeholders’ town hall meeting in Umuahia, themed “Community Policing: Building A Safer Nigeria Together.”
The Minister emphasized that grassroots security initiatives and the welfare of police officers are crucial for achieving a well-secured nation. She highlighted the federal government’s modern initiatives and actions aimed at improving the welfare of police personnel, which are part of a six-point framework designed by her ministry to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim stressed the importance of collaborative security efforts from all Nigerians and assured that the upgrading of police barracks, training schools, and other physical infrastructure are core priorities of her ministry. She also noted the strategic importance of Abia State as a transit route, which necessitates more robust security measures to combat illegal activities such as smuggling. The Minister commended the efforts of the state government and the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in maintaining security within the state.
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, also spoke at the event, reiterating that the security of lives and property is a collective responsibility of all Nigerians. He affirmed that his administration has been providing necessary support to the police and other security agencies in their efforts to combat crime.
