Comrade Daniel Onjeh, the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) nominee for the 2023 Benue South senatorial seat, has expressed relief over Austin Agada’s ouster as the party’s state chairman.
During the 2023 election, Onjeh had claimed that Agada had engaged in anti-party activities.
The head of the APC asserted that Agada obstructed his triumph by purportedly working for Senator Abba Moro, the PDP’s nominee.
He then filed a petition to have Agada removed from office with the party’s National Working Committee, which is chaired by Abdullahi Ganduje.
The state governor, Hyacinth Alia, suspended Agada as a result of the allegation and named Hon. Benjamin Omale as the acting chairman.
But Agada, who has Senator George Akume’s support as Secretary to the Government of the Federation, rejected his suspension.
The event made the Benue State ruling party’s leadership dilemma worse and split it into two factions: one led by Benjamin and the other by Agada.
However, the party’s national leadership, led by Ganduje, finally fired Agada on Wednesday and appointed a seven-member caretaker committee under Benjamin Omale’s direction for a six-month term, putting an end to the leadership issue.
In response, Onjeh wrote on his official Facebook page that he was happy that Agada had been fired.
“Justice was delayed, but it was finally served,” Onjeh declared.
His words were that “the chairman who heartlessly sabotaged my 2023 Benue South Senatorial election has finally been booted out, seven months after I petitioned the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje over his ant-party activities” .
