The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed strong criticism against Senator Adolphus Wabara, the former Senate President and current Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Wike described Wabara as an inconsistent and unreliable figure, asserting that he is unfit to hold the position of BOT chairman for the party.
Wike, who is also the former Governor of Rivers State, made these remarks during a media briefing held to mark his one year in office as FCT Minister. He questioned Wabara’s loyalty to the PDP, particularly in light of Wabara’s recent endorsement of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, who is a member of the Labour Party.
Wike criticized Wabara for his support of a political figure outside the PDP, suggesting that Wabara’s actions were contradictory to his role as the “conscience of the party.” He further questioned how Wabara became the PDP BOT chairman, implying that the position was a form of compensation rather than a reflection of Wabara’s capabilities or loyalty to the party.
Wike recounted an incident in 2023, during a period of crisis within the PDP over its presidential candidate, where Wabara led a delegation to visit him. He claimed that Wabara promised to submit a report on the matter, but never followed through.
Wike’s harsh comments underscore the ongoing tensions and internal conflicts within the PDP, particularly as the party continues to navigate leadership challenges and loyalty issues.
