British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, his 18-year-old daughter Hannah, and four others are missing after their luxury yacht, the 56-meter British-flagged “Bayesian,” sank during a fierce storm off the coast of Sicily on August 19. Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, was among the 15 people rescued by the Italian coast guard.

The yacht, which had a crew of 10 and 12 passengers, was hit by a sudden storm and a waterspout while moored off Porticello. Rescue operations, including helicopters and boats, have been ongoing, but so far only one body, believed to be the ship’s cook, has been recovered.

Salvo Cocina, head of Sicily’s Civil Protection Agency, mentioned that the survivors were fortunate, as a nearby ship, the “Sir Robert Baden Powell,” assisted in their rescue. Eight survivors were hospitalized, while the others were taken to a hotel. The search continues for the missing individuals, with divers attempting to reach the yacht’s hull, now resting 50 meters underwater.

Lynch, 59, is a well-known entrepreneur and investor in the technology sector, often compared to Bill Gates in the UK. Rescue efforts are ongoing, but hopes of finding the missing individuals alive are diminishing.
