In a recent episode of the ‘Afrobeats Podcast’ hosted by Shopsydoo, Nigerian singer Flavour (Chinedu Okoli) stated that he doesn’t identify as an Afrobeats artiste. He expressed that he isn’t bothered about not receiving credit for the global rise of Afrobeats, as his focus is on African music as a whole.

Flavour emphasized, “I don’t feel bad when I’m not given credit… because what the media is talking about is Afrobeats. I’m not an Afrobeats artiste. What I’m doing is African music.”

He mentioned other artists like Fally Ipupa and Diamond Platinumz, who contribute to African music globally but aren’t Afrobeats artistes. Flavour urged the media to promote various African genres, not just Afrobeats, and recognize his contributions to African music.
