The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has categorically dismissed rumors circulating on social media that he plans to run for president in 2027 with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as his running mate. Ganduje described the claims as “entirely false” and “malicious.”
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje attributed the misleading posters to “mischief-makers” who may be collaborating with elements within the Kwankwasiyya movement. He suggested that the intent behind these rumors is to sow discord between him and President Bola Tinubu.
“I want to make it clear that these rumors are baseless and are the handiwork of those looking to create unnecessary tension within the party,” Ganduje stated. “My commitment to President Tinubu’s administration is unwavering, and I remain fully dedicated to supporting his vision for the future of Nigeria.”
Ganduje emphasized that President Tinubu is on the right path to steering Nigeria towards greater prosperity, security, and unity, and he is focused on helping the President achieve these goals rather than engaging in premature political ambitions.
The APC has also issued a call to the public, urging them to disregard the “fabricated story” and avoid spreading unverified information that could harm the party’s cohesion. The party stressed the importance of unity and loyalty among its members, particularly as the nation faces significant challenges that require a collective effort to overcome.
Ganduje’s statement comes at a time when the political landscape in Nigeria is already charged with speculation about the 2027 elections, despite the current administration being in its early stages. Such rumors, he noted, are distractions that could undermine the hard work being done to address the country’s pressing issues.
In addition to reaffirming his loyalty to President Tinubu, Ganduje also used the opportunity to highlight some of the key initiatives the APC leadership is focusing on, including economic reforms, security enhancements, and efforts to foster national unity. He expressed confidence that with President Tinubu at the helm, Nigeria is on a trajectory towards significant development and progress.
