In a thrilling main event at UFC 305, South African champion Dricus Du Plessis successfully defended his middleweight title against Nigerian-born Israel Adesanya, securing a submission victory in the fourth round. The highly anticipated bout, marked by pre-fight tensions and a tense atmosphere, took place at the RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia, on Sunday, August 18.

Du Plessis, who claimed to be the first “real” African UFC champion, proved his wrestling skills and pressure were too much for Adesanya, as he took control of the fight in the second round and never looked back. Despite Adesanya’s sharp counters and early cut on Du Plessis’ forehead, the South African’s ground game ultimately led to his victory.

The intense bout saw both fighters engage in a fierce battle, with Adesanya seeking to reclaim the title he lost last September. However, Du Plessis’ decisive takedown and rear-naked choke in the fourth round left Adesanya no choice but to submit.

The win solidifies Du Plessis’ position at the top of the middleweight division.
