The Rivers State government, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health and other stakeholders, has donated 46 motorcycles to tuberculosis supervisors and their deputies across the state’s 23 local government areas. The donation, presented by Commissioner of Health Dr. Adaeze Oreh in Port Harcourt, aims to enhance access to hard-to-reach areas and strengthen the state’s tuberculosis eradication efforts.

Rivers State currently ranks third in the country in tuberculosis eradication, with a 96% treatment success rate. The motorcycles will facilitate active surveillance and treatment in communities, potentially increasing the treatment success rate to 100%. Dr. Oreh commended the state’s tuberculosis control team for their efforts and encouraged continued excellence in the fight against tuberculosis.

The donation is part of a collaborative effort with the Federal Ministry of Health, National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme, The Global Fund, and other partners to eradicate tuberculosis and other infectious diseases in Rivers State.
