Tinubu Embarks on 3-Day Official Visit to Malabo, to Meet World’s Longest-Serving Incumbent President

President Bola Tinubu has departed Abuja for Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, where he will undertake a three-day official visit. The trip aims to honor an invitation from President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who has been in power since 1979, making him the world’s longest-serving head of state.

The Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) announced President Tinubu’s departure in a recent post on X, signaling the beginning of this important diplomatic mission. According to Abuja City Journal, the visit is set to focus on strengthening bilateral ties between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.

Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that President Tinubu’s visit will commence with a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Malabo. During this meeting, President Tinubu and President Mbasogo will engage in discussions on various issues, including potential agreements in the oil and gas sector as well as security cooperation.

The statement further revealed that President Tinubu will be accompanied by Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with other key members of his cabinet. These officials will participate in the signing of agreements and the exploration of opportunities to enhance bilateral relations between the two nations.
